Standpoint Family

Standpoint Family Product Guide

Version 1.0, 27 September 2026. A public guide to what Standpoint Family does and how to use it. Every point here was checked against the live app (the Meyer demo case), the app's live screens and help texts, the live Terms of Service (version 1.2) and Privacy Notice (version 1.4).

What Standpoint Family is

Standpoint Family is a private app for one family law matter. We call that a case. It keeps one record of your children, the maintenance, the child costs, the handovers, your documents and the messages between you and the other parent.

It is run by TownConnect (Pty) Ltd.

It does not give legal advice. It cannot tell you what to claim, what to do, or how a court will decide. For that, speak to an attorney. For free legal help, call Legal Aid South Africa on 0800 110 110.

Signing up and choosing a plan

To sign up, go to the app and choose Sign up. You enter your email address. We email you a six-digit code. There are no passwords.

Before you open a case you accept the Terms of Service and the Privacy Notice.

Then you give your name, name the case, and choose a plan:

Prices are per case, per month, in rand. No VAT is added, because TownConnect (Pty) Ltd is not registered for VAT.

You pay through PayFast. Your case opens once PayFast confirms the first payment. If a payment fails or is cancelled, the case stays closed.

You can start on Silver alone and move to Gold later, when you want the other parent on the case. Plan changes: you can change your plan yourself under Your plan. A higher plan starts at once and costs more from your next billing date; a lower plan starts on your next billing date. A six-month plan is changed by contacting us.

You can cancel within seven days of first paying and get a full refund, without giving a reason.

The Court Pack, R500 once-off

On Silver or Gold you can buy a Court Pack for R500, paid once through PayFast. For 30 days it gives you attorney access, the court pack, the maintenance arrears statement and the contact breach report. It does not renew. You can extend it by another 30 days for R500. Platinum already includes all of this.

If you have a protection order

When you sign up, tick "I have a protection order". Add the order's case number, the court, and a photo or PDF of the order.

Nobody else on the case sees any of this.

Set up my record for me, R750 once-off

If you have a pile of papers and no time, a trained Standpoint Family helper can set up your record for you. It costs R750, paid once.

Signing in

Enter your email address. We email you a six-digit code. The code expires after 10 minutes and locks after 5 wrong tries. There are no passwords.

If you lose a phone, go to More, Your account, and press "Sign out everywhere". You then need a new code on every device.

The app works on a phone and on a laptop. It installs on your phone like an app, straight from the browser.

Inviting the other parent

Only the parent who set up the case (the case owner) can invite people. Go to More, People on this case.

You type their email address and press Send invite. They sign in with that email and accept the invite.

You do not need the other parent to join. You can keep the whole record alone on Silver. If the other parent joins later, they see the shared record, never your private notes.

Shared or Only me

Every item you add is either Shared or Only me.

This is enforced on our servers, not only in the app.

Home

Home shows your case on one screen:

Documents and the "To confirm" step

You do not type your life in twice. You upload the documents you already have, and the Record reads them.

How to add a document. Press "Add a document". It is on Home, Money, Log, Children and the evidence vault. You can choose several files at once. You can upload a PDF, a Word document (.docx) or a photo. An old-style Word document (.doc) cannot be read, so save it as .docx or PDF first.

What the Record finds. After upload, the Record reads each document and suggests entries. For example:

To confirm. The suggestions wait under "To confirm". Nothing counts in any total, answer or court pack until you press Confirm. For each suggestion you can:

Nothing is ever confirmed for you. The Record can read a document wrongly. That is why you check it first.

The evidence vault. Every document is kept in the vault (More, Evidence vault) with its status:

Photos lose the place they were taken when they are stored.

Maintenance tracking and arrears

Open Money, Maintenance.

The maintenance schedule usually comes from your court order. When the Record reads the order, confirm its maintenance duty and the schedule is made for you: one row for every month from the start date. You can also add a maintenance order by hand.

Each month shows what was due, what was paid, on which date, and the proof. The status of each month is one of:

Arrears are the maintenance that was due but not paid, added up month by month from the start of the order. You see the total on Home and on the Maintenance screen.

Payments found on a bank statement are suggested against the right month. Tap "proof" to see the bank statement behind a payment.

On Platinum or with a Court Pack, you can download a maintenance arrears statement.

Expense tracking and the split

Open Money, Expenses. This is the ledger of shared child costs, such as school uniforms, the pharmacy or karate.

How to log a cost:

  1. Add the expense, or upload a receipt and confirm the suggestion.
  2. Give the date, the amount, who paid, the child, and a description.
  3. Attach the receipt.
  4. The split between the parents is worked out for you, to the cent. A 50/50 split means each parent pays half. The case owner sets the usual split in the case settings.

The screen shows what each parent paid, each parent's share, and who owes whom. Totals count shared entries only, so both parents see the same numbers.

The other parent can mark a shared expense as Agreed or Disputed. All of these stay on the record.

On Gold and Platinum you can also ask the other parent to share a cost, as a request (see Requests).

Calendar, handovers and swaps

Open Log, Calendar. There is a month view and a week view. Each day is coloured by who has the children. A dashed outline means a swap you both agreed.

The calendar is set up from your parenting plan or court order: confirm the contact duty the Record found and it goes into the calendar. You can also add entries by hand, such as alternate weekends or a weekly afternoon.

Reminders. Reminders arrive by email. You can also switch on notifications on your phone or computer under More, Reminders and key dates. You are reminded the evening before a handover, and before maintenance is due.

Handover check-in. At a handover, open Log, Contact and tap "I am here to hand over" or "I am here to collect". One tap records the time.

Missed or late handovers. Log a handover, visit, or missed or late event with the planned time and the time it really happened. The Contact screen lists the missed and late ones.

Swaps. On Gold and Platinum, ask the other parent to swap days through a request (see Requests). If they accept, the calendar changes by itself.

Messages

On Gold and Platinum, the two parents have one shared message thread (the Chat tab).

Keep messages about the children. A court may read them one day.

Requests

On Gold and Platinum, a parent can ask the other parent to:

Only the other parent can accept or decline. If they accept, the calendar or the expenses change by themselves. Both the request and the answer stay on the record.

Private notes and incident notes

The other parent and the attorney can never see your private notes or incident notes. They never go into a court pack. The Record will not repeat them to anyone else who asks.

Children

Open More, Children. For each child you can keep the school and class, the doctor, medical aid, allergies, medication, emergency contacts and passport details.

Children's details are shared with both parents and the attorney. Either parent can change them. Every change is kept in the record.

The medical aid, passport and ID numbers show only their last four characters until you press Show.

Case file, household budget, and assets and debts

The Record

The Record is the assistant inside the app. Open the Ask tab and ask a question in plain words, such as "How much maintenance is in arrears?"

The Ask tab also has:

Nobody can quietly change the record

Messages, documents, expenses, maintenance payments, contact events, requests, incident notes and the history cannot be edited or deleted by anyone in the app. Any change would show up in the record check.

Every entry is linked to the one before it by a fingerprint. If anyone changed an old entry, the check would say "Not intact". The check runs every night. You can also run it yourself: More, Case history, "Check the record now".

Court pack and certificate of record

Court documents come with Platinum, or with a Court Pack on Silver or Gold. Open More, Court documents.

The court pack never includes private notes or incident notes. These documents are not legal advice and make no finding.

Certificate of record. This is page one of the court pack. It sets out how the record was kept and confirms that the fingerprint check passed. It is not a finding on what happened.

Signed certificate. After building a pack you can ask for a signed certificate, so it can be handed in with the pack. An officer of TownConnect signs it. It usually takes five working days. The fee is shown in the app (currently R0).

We cannot promise how any court will treat any evidence.

Export

Open More, Export everything. You get one ZIP file with:

Your own private notes and incidents are in your export only. Nobody else's private items are ever included.

Survivor mode

Survivor mode is for a parent who needs distance and safety. Each parent can switch it on for themselves under More, Safety and privacy. When it is on:

Standpoint Family keeps a record. It cannot call for help. If you are in danger, call the police on 10111, or the Gender-Based Violence Command Centre on 0800 428 428 (free, 24 hours).

What your attorney can see

Your attorney joins by your invitation, on Platinum or with a Court Pack.

Where your data is kept

Your record is stored outside South Africa:

It is not stored in South Africa. We cannot offer South African data residency at present.

The app's functions run in the United States and keep nothing. Emails are sent through a service in the United States. Payments go through PayFast in South Africa. The Record reads documents and answers questions using Google Gemini.

The Privacy Notice sets all of this out. Your consent is recorded against the exact version you accepted.

Cancelling and how long the case is kept

You can cancel at any time. Everything keeps working until the end of the period you already paid for.

After that, the case is read only. Everyone on it can sign in, read it and export it, but nothing can be added.

Export anything you need before then.

Deleting a case

The case owner can delete the case under More, Safety and privacy, "Delete this case". You type DELETE to confirm. The case is removed for everyone. For 14 days the owner can press "Restore the case" to bring it back. After 14 days it is permanently removed, with its documents.

Try the demo

You can try a demo case before you sign up. Every name in it is invented, and nothing you do in it is saved. There is a parent view and an attorney view.
